David,

I have not seen any popups in IE. Can you describe what you are seeing in more detail or use snipping to capture the popup so you can post it here?

Go to Windows Update. Click on Installed Updates. Search for and find (KB303583). Right click on it. Choose uninstall. Confirm. Restart.

If your computer is supported and eligible for the Windows 10 update, you'll get it again.

To stop this, click 'Check for updates', then in the list when that one is listed, right-click and choose 'hide update' and it will never be reapplied.

Here is a screen shot of the pop-up. Found one of the updates and removed it. Unable to locate the second one and still have this pop-up.

That is not coming from your computer, that's an ad on the MSN web site. Only solution, don't go to the MSN website.

Since it's the MSN website that is creating the popup, yes.

I opened FireFox and up it popped. And I also deleted the KB303.... file beforehand.
I'm guessing my laptop is completely infested with Microsoft crapola.
What can I possibly do aside from switching to APPLE?

Please help.

Thanks.

Jim

It isn't coming from your computer, it's just a picture on the website itself. It's an advertisement, just like any website advertising picture. Nothing you can do on your computer (like removing things) will change it. Even if you buy an Apple, if you go to MSN.com you will still see that advertisement on the webpage.

Actually, the MSN main page is detecting what OS version is running on the PC and presents the Windows 10 overlay/pop-up only when it detects Windows 7 through 8.1, but it does so with (presumably) any browser. I just verified this in IE 11, Firefox, and Chrome on a Windows 7 box. It doesn't appear at all when running Windows 10, XP, or OS X, which I also tested with Firefox, Chrome, and IE/Safari (XP/OS X).

There has been at least one person in my organization that has mistaken the Windows 10 upgrade for an IE 10 upgrade, which people were recently told was mandatory for security reasons. If there was a way to block the link from MSN.com from working via GPO, we'd love to see it. Without that, we have to keep educating our users and see if the web filter can redirect it instead.
